Handing out assignments to students

Once an assignment is developed, it appears in the Library. Students cannot access the assignment directly; it must first be distributed/assigned.

Note: An assignment must have an active status before it can be assigned to students.

Assignment Connection

  1. Navigate to the assignment you want to assign and click the blue arrow next to the assignment under Students.
  2. If a connection already exists, select + Add. If no connection exists yet, you will need to choose Group or Student immediately. You will then be directed to the following screen:

  • Groups/Students: Select the group you want to link to the assignment. If you selected Students, you will need to enter individual students here.

You can only select students/groups that you are also linked to as a teacher.

  • Start Date: Set the date on which the assignment becomes visible to the student. By default, this date is set to today. If the date is in the future, the assignment will only become visible to the student on that date.

The student can still find the assignment, but it will have the status Not Yet Available if the student filters by this status in their assignments module. However, the assignment can only be started on the start date.

  • Deadline: Set a deadline by which the assignment must be completed. Once the deadline is set, a new option appears: Allow Submission After Deadline. This allows the assignment to be submitted even after the deadline has passed.

Reviewers for an assignment

  • Reviewers: Select the reviewers for the assignment. The reviewer(s) will receive a notification when the assignment is ready for review. Each connection requires at least one reviewer, with no upper limit.
    • Multiple reviewers can be assigned per review group. If the reviewers are in the same group, they will all receive the assignment simultaneously for evaluation.
      • Specify on the side how many reviewers are required to review in the designated group.
    • Click Add New Reviewer Group to link a new group of reviewers.
    • Use the trash can icon to delete a reviewer group.
    • Use the slider icon to move the group to another group.
    • It’s possible to link both students (S) and teachers (T) as reviewers.
      • If a student is assigned as a reviewer and it’s their turn to review, a review module will appear for the student.

Once the assignment has been submitted by the student, reviewers can assess it from the review module. Teachers also have the option to review directly from the assignments overview.

Assignment connection settings

  • Determine order of reviewers: If this toggle is activated, the reviewers will follow a set order. In this case, Group 1, marked with a 1 in front of the top reviewer group, must review and meet the requirements before Group 2 can begin their review.
    • If this toggle is inactive, there is no set order for the reviewers. This means that everyone will receive the assignment in their review list simultaneously.
  • Reviews visible to other reviewers: If this toggle is activated, reviewers can view each other’s evaluations. This allows the reviewer in Group 2 to see the assessments made by other reviewers.
    • If this toggle is inactive, reviewers cannot see the evaluations of previous reviewers.

Edit existing assignment connection

If a connection has already been created but needs editing, this is possible. Select the blue square next to the connection and choose Edit. The connection is fully editable as long as students haven’t yet completed the assignment. Once any student has completed the assignment, the connection is only partially editable:

  • Start Date: Can still be edited.
  • Deadline: Can still be edited.
  • Submission After Deadline: Can be enabled or disabled.
  • Reviewers: Editable only if the assignment hasn’t been fully completed by all students. If multiple reviewer groups are in use, Group 2 can still be edited if they haven’t finished reviewing. Reviewers can be added to any groups that haven’t completed their reviews until the final moment.
  • Settings: Cannot be adjusted once students have submitted the assignment.

These options ensure that assignments in progress remain adaptable while preserving completed submissions and reviews.

Sharing Assignment Link with Students

Want to place the assignment in an external system? You can use a unique link (URL) for each assignment. Students who have received the assignment can use the link to be directly redirected to it. To generate the unique link:

  1. Navigate to the Assignments module in the library.
  2. Open the specific assignment you wish to share the link for.
  3. In the top right corner, select the Link tab.
  4. Copy the link directly by clicking on the icon next to it. Share this link with the students.

If a student is not assigned to the assignment but has received this link, they will not be able to open the assignment and will receive the following message.
