How do I set up two-factor authentication?
Who is this for: students and teachers
Two-factor authentication makes logging in extra secure: besides your normal login, you enter a code from an app on your phone. Below you can read how to turn it on and what to do if you lose your phone or codes.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra security step during login. Alongside entering your username/email and password, an additional code is required, which you obtain via an app on your phone.
To set up 2FA:
- Select Configure authenticator app. You will then be prompted to scan a QR code with an authenticator app, like Google Authenticator.
- After scanning, a code will appear in the app. Enter this code at the bottom of the page to enable 2FA. From now on, logging in will require a code from the app.
Important notes:
Good to know
- As an admin, 2FA cannot be disabled if no Single Sign-On (SSO) is enabled with another system.
- If you've switched phones and can't log in, the administrators can reset your 2FA.
- If the 2FA code is not accepted, it may be due to a time mismatch between your phone and the server. Make sure your phone's clock is set to automatic.
Recovering Two-Factor Authentication
If you need to reset 2FA on your Simulise account, there are several options:
- Using Backup Codes: After enabling 2FA, you had the option to generate backup codes. You can use these codes to log into your Simulise account, disable 2FA, and then re-enable it to set it up again.
- Via a Simulise School Administrator: A Simulise administrator at your school can disable 2FA for your account. They can do this by going to Admin > Users > Edit your account > Reset two-factor authentication.
- Through Simulise Support: In exceptional cases, Simulise can disable 2FA for your account after a verification process to ensure your identity.
