Creating and handing out page template
Simulise offers the possibility to create a predefined Page that can be placed in the portfolio for certain groups of students. The Pages completed by the students can be printed on your organisation's corporate identity paper. You will also see the completed pages in the student's portfolio.
You need copyright for this page template. These can be assigned by the Simulise administrator at your school.

Making a Page template
To set up a page for students, the template must first be created.
- Navigate to the Templates module.
- Select + New Template to develop a new template. The following screen will open:
- Give the template a title (required). The title of the template will be visible to students once the template is distributed.
- Provide a short description of the template. This description is optional and will not be displayed on the page itself; however, students will see it when creating the page.
- Under Settings, the following options are available:
- Locations (required): This option is only visible if the module is enabled for your school.
- Privacy setting: Define the default privacy setting for the template. Students can change this setting later if needed.
- Under View More Settings, you’ll find the following options:
- Link an (additional) author to the template. Authors can edit the template.
- Attach labels to the template for extra metadata. This will make the template easier to find, and it helps other Template authors understand the intended purpose of this page.
- Add elements to the page. These elements determine what students can fill out on the page. Each element has a unique function, which you can learn more about on the elements page.
Some tips for designing a (printable) portfolio page:
- Always add a profile section to the page. Otherwise, it won’t be clear who the page belongs to when the template is printed.
- If the page is intended to be printed, avoid using files and/or videos, as these cannot be accessed in print format.
- Use the Recommendation element to allow teachers to provide feedback on the page.
- For each element, an additional explanation can be provided for students under Settings.
Handing out a page template
Once a page is created, it needs to be distributed to groups/classes so that the page appears in the students' portfolios.
- Navigate to the Templates module.
- Click on the blue square behind the template you want to set up and select the Students option.
- Choose either Groups or Students.
- Groups: Link the template directly to the entire group.
- Students: Link the template only to an individual student.
- Now click Save in the bottom right corner.
Tip: You can also link a page template to an assignment. This allows you to set a deadline for when the page must be completed. To do this, create a new assignment and select Page Template under submission items. Templates that have been distributed from an assignment do not need to be linked separately to a group. The connection is established based on the association with the assignment.
A template that has been distributed to a group or student will be visible in the student’s portfolio under the tab: Pages.
Copy an existing template
Sometimes, you may want to adjust a page template, such as adding an author or linking a new element to the template, without affecting other students' versions. For this reason, you can easily copy the template and then make adjustments. To copy the template, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the template you want to copy in the library.
- Click on the blue square next to the template and select “Copy.” The template will be duplicated, and “Copied” will appear in the title.
If you want current students to receive a new element, simply edit your existing template. The updates will automatically be applied, and students will see the new elements.
