Creating labels
To create labels, a category must first be created. A category can be anything, such as: Learning Goals, Learning Outcomes, or Projects.
Creating category
When you want to create a new category, you will come to the following screen:
- Active: This is enabled by default. It does not make the category active across all modules immediately; this is a manual action.
- Name: The name of the category.
- Description: The description of the category.
We automatically translate the name and description into English, but if you prefer a different translation, you can enter it in the English field.
- Wide input field in filter: This field is disabled by default. If enabled, it will adjust the width in the filter tab. This change is only visual on desktop/laptop. The toggle will automatically be activated if an underlying label contains more than 30 characters. In the example below, Rubrics, subjects, and learning outcomes are wide, but the other fields are narrower.
- Icon: Each category can have its own icon. When categories are linked, the icons are used to indicate how many connections have been made per label.
- Color: The color determines how a label will be displayed when it is used.
- Locations: If locations are active, categories can be made available per location. If you have renamed locations, the alternative name will be shown here.
- Linked Categories: Categories can be linked to each other. When categories are linked, the underlying labels can also be linked to each other.
Example: The category "education level" is linked to the category "grade level" (active within the assignment module). Below, Grade 1-4 are linked to all VMBO students, Grade 1-5 to HAVO, and Grade 1-6 to VWO.
I want to create an assignment specifically for HAVO, Grade 1. First, I select Grade 1. Now, I get the options under "education level": VMBO, HAVO, VWO, as they are all linked to Grade 1. If I choose the education level "HAVO" first, then under "grade level" all the grades linked to HAVO (1 to 5) will appear.
Next, deeper connections can also be made. For example, subjects are also linked to both grade level and education level. Now, only Economics is visible under HAVO, Grade 5.
I want to create an assignment specifically for HAVO, Grade 5, Economics. First, I select the education level: HAVO. At this point, grades 1 to 5 and all subjects are visible. Then I select "Grade 5." Now, only Economics is visible under the subjects.
- Manage (category name): If you click here, you can create labels under the newly created category.
Creating labels
Once a category is created, you can create underlying labels. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the category.
- Click on (category name) manage.
- Select + New label. If no labels have been created yet, you will be directed to the screen where you can create labels.
- Active: This indicates whether the label is immediately active. This means the label can be used in the modules where the category is active.
- Name: The name of the label.
- Description: A description of the label. The description will be displayed under the label when it is linked to a module.
For both the Name and Description, a translation into English can be provided. This will be visible if the user has set their language preference to English.
- Locations: If locations are enabled, labels can be linked to a specific location. This means the labels will only be available for use within that particular location. As a result, different labels may appear depending on the location.
- Linked categories: Labels can be linked to a label from another category. This allows for deeper filtering, meaning you can determine when the label will appear in the filtering process if a filter has already been applied to another category.
- Click Add all available labels from (category name) to add all the labels from that category.
