Reviewing portfolio assignment
From within a course, portfolio assignments can be created. Specific aspects of the course are linked to the portfolio assignment. A portfolio assignment that has been assessed provides insight into the student’s development within the program.
We can assess a portfolio assignment from two different pages:
- A page showing all portfolio assignments per component
- A page showing all portfolio assignments per program
The assessment of portfolio assignments works the same way on both pages.
Where can I find the portfolio assignments to be assessed?
Open the course in which you want to see which assignments need to be assessed for students. After opening the program, select the Students tab (top right).
The last column “Reviewable portfolio assignments ” shows how many assignments are still available for assessment. A portfolio assignment may always be assessed, regardless of its status.
Ways to open portfolio assignments for assessment
As explained above, there are several ways to access a page where portfolio assignments can be reviewed.
All portfolio assignments of the program
On this page, you will see all portfolio assignments linked to one or more aspects of the course, which can be assessed per student. You can reach this page through different paths:
- In the Students tab, click on the student’s name and then, in the top right, select the Review tab.
- In the Students tab, click on the number in the column Reviewable portfolio assignments.
- In the Students tab, click on the blue square and select Review.
- Open the Review module (left menu) and apply the filter → Portfolio assignments.
You will now see only portfolio assignments submitted by students for assessment. Click on the title of an assignment to open the assessment page.
Portfolio assignments per component
On this page, you will see portfolio assignments linked to the specific aspect you are viewing. You can access this page as follows:
- In the Students tab, click on the student’s name and then click on the aspect you wish to assess.
You will now see the assessment page for that component. All assignments linked to the aspect are displayed.
Reviewing a portfolio assignment
An assessment screen is characterized by a page containing the course diagram, with the portfolio assignments listed below in a table.
Overview of portfolio assignments
On this page, the table of portfolio assignments shows all assignments linked to program aspects that can be assessed. Under each portfolio assignment, the aspects linked to the assignment are displayed.
For each assignment, the following information is visible:
- The status of the assignment
- The amount of feedback received
- The number of submitted evidence files
Selecting portfolio assignments
To start the assessment process, at least one portfolio assignment must be selected using its checkbox.
If you do not see a checkbox, you are not an assessor for any of the linked components. In that case, you cannot submit assessments.
Assessing via the program diagram
After selecting one or more portfolio assignments, you can click on a step within the course diagram for one of the linked aspects. Clicking the step opens a modal containing:
- Circles: The number of levels defined for the professional skills. Each circle represents a level and has its own color.
- Feedback: You can provide feedback during the assessment. The feedback applies only to the selected step and aspect.
- GO: Clicking this button finalizes and submits the assessment.
- The diagram is immediately updated with the new assessment.
- The component that has been assessed receives a checkmark (“✔”) under the name of the assignment, helping you keep track of what has already been assessed and what is still pending.
- The assessment, including feedback, is moved to the page behind the step that was assessed. On this page, assessments are displayed in chronological order.
- Trash can: Clicking this gives you the option to delete the assessment.
After submitting the assessment, the program diagram is updated immediately.
Note: The diagram always retains the highest score achieved. If a step was previously marked as achieved but in a later assessment is marked as not achieved, the student’s progress remains at achieved
Keeping notes per student
On the assessment page, there is a notes field. The notes entered here are visible to everyone who has access to this page:
- Assessors
- Teachers linked to the student’s group
- Course managers
- Administrators
Do you want to keep a note only for yourself? Switch on the visible only to me toggle. This ensures the note you add will be visible only to you.
Completion & follow-up
A portfolio assignment can no longer be reviewed once all aspects linked to the assignment have been reviewed. The assignment then receives the status Completed and disappears from the list of portfolio assignments to be assessed.
After clicking GO, the student immediately receives the assessment. In the student’s program module, their progress is updated both in table view and in diagram view.
