What is a rubric and how do I fill it in?
Who is this for: students
A rubric shows what you are assessed on in an assignment. A rubric consists of one or more criteria. Each criterion has levels, with a description of what you show at that level. Your school decides which criteria and levels a rubric contains.
Reflecting on a rubric yourself
If a rubric is linked to an assignment, you first estimate your own level. You do this in the assignment, before you submit it.
- Open the assignment in your Assignments.
- For each criterion, choose the level that best fits your work.
- Optionally explain your choice in the field below the criterion. This field is not required.
- Submit the assignment. Your reviewer will then see your choices and explanation.

Your reflection is saved as you go, so you can start now and continue later. Want to start over? Choose Reset.
Required or optional
- No label: the rubric is required. Fill in all criteria, otherwise you cannot submit the assignment.
- Optional: you may fill in the rubric, but you do not have to.
- Optional after submitting: you can also fill in the rubric after you have submitted the assignment.
Badges and your skills diagram
Once you have filled in all criteria, the average is calculated and a badge is linked to it, for example bronze, silver, gold or platinum. You see the badge you give yourself and, after the review, the badge from your reviewer.
Is the rubric linked to a skill? Then the scores count towards your skills diagram. Read more in How do I read my skills diagram?.
