Add groups manually
If there is no nightly synchronization of groups, you can easily import all your groups. However, in some cases, it may also be useful to manually create just a few groups.
To manually create groups, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the Administration module.
- Select the Groups module.
- Click on + New Group.
Fill in the following details when creating a new group:
- Name (required): Provide a name for the group. This name will be visible to all group members.
- Parent Group: Choose a group under which the newly created group will fall. If you are creating a parent group, select No Parent Group.
- Students Can Log In: Decide whether the students in this group are allowed to log in.
This setting is only visible if it has been enabled for your environment. It can be useful, for example, if no school license is being used.
- Searchable: Ensures that this is the highest level participants in underlying groups can search within the Community. Participants in this group and all underlying groups can find each other's updates in the community.
Example:
- If you want everyone within the faculty to find everything under that faculty during a search, only enable this option at the faculty level, not for the underlying (sub)groups
- If you want participants to find content only from a specific subgroup during a search, enable this option for that group.
- Visible: Ensures that this is the highest level visible to underlying groups in the community stream. Participants in this group and all underlying groups can see each other's updates in the community.
Example:
- If you want everyone within the faculty to see everything under that faculty in the community stream, enable this option only at the faculty level, not for the underlying (sub)groups.
- If you want participants to see content only from a specific subgroup, enable this option for that group.
- Students: Add the students who should be linked to this group. This can also be adjusted later.
- Teachers: Add the teachers who should be linked to this group. This can also be adjusted later.
