How do I change an assignment deadline?
Who is this for: authors of the assignment and administrators
An assignment or lesson plan can have a deadline. This article explains how to move that deadline, for one student or for a whole group.
Change the deadline for one student
- Go to the Assignments module. Click the blue square next to the assignment and choose Students.
- You now see the connections of the assignment. Click the name of the connection (the group) the student belongs to.
- The assignment overview opens, filtered on this assignment.
- Click the student's status. The student's assignment opens.
- Choose Change in the bottom right and pick the new deadline.

Change the deadline for a whole group
- Go to the Assignments module. Click the blue square next to the assignment and choose Students.
- Click the blue square next to the group and choose Edit.
- Click Change next to Deadline, pick the new date and click Save.

Good to know
Did you set an individual deadline for a student earlier? That deadline stays in place. A new group deadline does not change it.
The deadline has already passed
The steps above also work when the deadline has already passed. So you can extend the deadline afterwards or reopen the assignment for a student or a group.
- Deadline (default): after the deadline, the student can no longer submit. Extend the deadline if the student still needs to submit.
- Allow submission after deadline: if this option is on, the student can still submit after the deadline.
Good to know
As a teacher, you can always review an assignment, even if the deadline has passed or the student has not submitted anything. See How do I review an assignment that was not submitted?.
