Settings - Teachers

Setting - Personal

Here you can view your information, as entered by your school administrator or synced from your school’s Learning Administration System (e.g., Magister or Somtoday). This includes your name, username, and email address.

The fields for name, username, and email are not editable. If any of this information is incorrect, please contact your school administrator.

Under the About Me section, you can add a short description about yourself that will be displayed on your dashboard. Students and teachers in your groups will be able to read this information.

Note: The About Me section is visible to other students and teachers.

Setting - Portfolio banner

Customize the banner in your portfolio to make it uniquely yours. You can select from a standard set of banner images via the dropdown menu. Want to upload your own image? Choose Upload Custom Image to personalize further.

Tip: Through Upload Custom Image, you can add royalty-free images as your banner from Unsplash. Search by color or theme to find the perfect match.

The selected banner will then be displayed in your portfolio as the header for Pages and Work.

Setting - Password

It is only possible to create a new password if you log in with an email address and password. If you log in automatically through a platform such as Entree, Surf, or Azure, then you don’t have a password in our system and cannot create a new one.

If you can create a new password, it must meet the following criteria:

  • It must contain at least 8 characters.
  • It must include at least 1 uppercase letter.
  • It must contain at least one number.
  • It cannot contain any spaces.

Setting E-mail adres

Here, you can see which email addresses are linked to your Simulise account. By default, one email address is listed, provided by your school or educational institution.

You can add a personal email address to your portfolio if you’d like to keep using it after leaving school. To add a personal email, click on Add New Email and enter your personal email address.

When you add an extra email address, a confirmation email will be sent. Only after activating the link in this email will the additional email address become active. You will then be able to log in using this email as well.

Setting - Profile picture

Choose a profile picture that clearly identifies you to other users. You can add a profile picture in two ways:

  • Upload your own photo – Select Choose Image and locate the picture on your computer. The file size must not exceed 5MB.
  • Use Gravatar – Link your profile picture through Gravatar by associating it with your email address. The profile picture from Gravatar will then appear in Simulise.

Setting - Notifications

Here, you can specify how and which notifications you want to receive. For each notification type, you can select whether to receive it via:

In the article Notifications, we explain the details of each notification type.

Setting - Preferences

Under Preferences, you can set the following options:

  • Language: Choose whether you want to view Simulise in Dutch or English.
  • Style: Choose whether you would like to send smileys or not.
  • Reset Acknowledged Instructions: Reactivate instructional guides that have already been read.

Setting - Portfolio export

When you export your portfolio, you download everything stored within it. This can be useful if you want to view your portfolio offline, share it with a new platform, or save a copy for yourself.

Good to know:

  • The export file can be downloaded for up to 7 days.
  • You can create a new export at any time.
  • The zip file includes:
    • All work items (in their original format) and an HTML file for easy viewing of these items.
    • All created pages, which can be opened directly via HTML.

Setting - Two factor authentication

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra security step during login. Alongside entering your username/email and password, an additional code is required, which you obtain via an app on your phone.

To set up 2FA:

  1. Select Configure authenticator app. You will then be prompted to scan a QR code with an authenticator app, like Google Authenticator.
  2. After scanning, a code will appear in the app. Enter this code at the bottom of the page to enable 2FA. From now on, logging in will require a code from the app.

Important notes:

  • As an admin, 2FA cannot be disabled if no Single Sign-On (SSO) is enabled with another system.
  • If you've switched phones and can't log in, the administrators can reset your 2FA.
  • If the 2FA code is not accepted, it may be due to a time mismatch between your phone and the server. Make sure your phone's clock is set to automatic.

Recovering Two-Factor Authentication

If you need to reset 2FA on your Simulise account, there are several options:

  1. Using Backup Codes: After enabling 2FA, you had the option to generate backup codes. You can use these codes to log into your Simulise account, disable 2FA, and then re-enable it to set it up again.
  2. Via a Simulise School Administrator: A Simulise administrator at your school can disable 2FA for your account. They can do this by going to Admin > Users > Edit your account > Reset two-factor authentication.
  3. Through Simulise Support: In exceptional cases, Simulise can disable 2FA for your account after a verification process to ensure your identity.
