Create a professional skill

A Professional Skill is essential for a course. A professional skill can also be seen as a core task. Each professional skill consists of one or more aspects. These aspects are then displayed in a circular diagram.

The terms used below can be modified as desired via the translation module:

  • Course (name module)
  • Development stages
  • Professional skills
  • Aspect
  • Portfolio assignment

Creating a Professional Skill

  • Navigate to the course module
  • Open a course and click on + New Professional Skill

Fill in the following details:

  • Name (required): Give the professional skill or core task a name. The name will be visible to everyone linked to the program.
  • Description: Optionally, provide a description of the professional skill. This description is only visible to instructors.
  • Under Settings, you can configure the following:
    • Active: Decide whether the professional skill should be active immediately. An active professional skill is visible to everyone assigned to the program.
    • Color: Assign a color to the professional skill. This color will be applied to the underlying aspects shown in the circular diagram.
  • Levels: Define how many levels the professional skill will have. The number of levels determines the assessment options available for the underlying aspects.
    • A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 levels is required.
    • Each level corresponds to the color of the professional skill. The first level is always grey, and the colors become progressively darker in the diagram as higher scores are achieved.
  • Click Save to create the professional skill.

What does the course look like now?

After opening the program, the professional skill has been added. A notification appears at the top of the screen. This notification is shown when a professional skill does not yet contain any aspects.

Opening a Professional Skill

An opened professional skill looks very similar to the creation screen. Some additions include:

  • Aspects: Once a professional skill has been created, it can contain underlying aspects. If multiple aspects have been created, they are displayed in a table under the professional skill.
