How do I let students type an answer in an assignment?

Do you want students to answer questions or type a text in an assignment? You do this with a page template with a text field. An assignment itself has no text box for students to type in.

How it works

1. Create a page template with one or more text fields, for example with your questions above them. See How do I create and hand out a page template? and Which content blocks can I use in a page template?.
2. In the submission items of the assignment, choose Page template as submission item and select your template. See How do I create an assignment?.
3. The student fills in the template in their portfolio and submits it with the assignment.
