What is a portfolio?

You are going to work with Simulise.
⌄

You are going to work with Simulise. Simulise is an online portfolio.

In your online portfolio you can add assignments, photos, videos or valuable projects you make during your studies. This lets you show what you are good at and what you have learned from. You can also add your own photos and videos from your free time or other activities: a video of a sports achievement or a photo of a painting you made. This makes you think about what you are good at and what you want to get better at. That way you get to know yourself better.

This portfolio is yours. You can keep using it for free during your studies and afterwards, for example when you apply for a job or start another course. With your portfolio you can present yourself by creating great showcases.

It can help you to:

  • make choices during and after your studies
  • show what you are good at and what your talents are
  • show who you are (beyond just your grades)!

In Simulise you always have a profile that shows others who you are.

Your profile contains:

  • a photo that is visible wherever you do, post or make something, and that is also linked to your portfolio.

Get started

  1. Click Start and then Complete profile.
  2. Upload a nice photo of yourself. Use your best photo to present yourself as well as possible.
  3. Add a description about yourself.

Your portfolio: how it is built

Your portfolio has three parts:
⌄

Your portfolio has three parts:

Your Work - here you can add all kinds of material. Think of: assignments, project presentations, photos, reports, videos or podcasts you made yourself. This material shows where you stand in your studies. You can also save material from your private life: a prize you won, an activity or trip you learned from, or perhaps a photo of a project you are proud of.

Your presentation Pages - here you can create attractive (web) pages about a topic. For example an overview of evidence or products you made, the progress of your studies, or an internship or job application.

Your Start page/Home - this is the first page fellow students or teachers see in your portfolio. You choose which page this is yourself, so it is handy to make a personal page or CV your start page.

It is also important to link work items and pages to labels. That keeps your portfolio organised.

What do I need to know about privacy?

Just like when you share things on TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat, it is important to think about who…
⌄

Just like when you share things on TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat, it is important to think about who you share your material with in Simulise.

For every item in your work portfolio and every page, you can use Privacy to make it more "open" or "closed". You see these privacy settings as the last step when you add material.

Get started

Read the privacy settings below carefully; you will come across them soon. These are:

  • Is something just for you? Choose Only me. You then cannot submit it to your teacher yet.
  • Do you want to share it with all students and teachers in your groups? Choose Everyone in my groups: your fellow students and teachers can then see it when they view your portfolio.
  • If you choose The reviewer(s) of the assignment, it is only visible to the person who reviews you or gives you feedback. Other teachers and students cannot see it.
  • If you choose My teachers, only your own teachers can see it.
  • With These people or groups you can choose exactly who you want to share something with.

Add work to your portfolio

You can keep all kinds of files and items in your portfolio: a report, photo, video, you name it.

You can keep all kinds of files and items in your portfolio: a report, photo, video, you name it. In Simulise we call this your work. Now let's add a first work item to your portfolio.

Get started

  1. Go to My portfolio and click Work.
  2. Click + New Work.
  3. Click Text/File/Link and add a file from an assignment you made recently. Under description you can briefly describe the assignment.
  4. Choose a fitting Title.
  5. Under Privacy, choose who you want to share it with.
  6. Choose fitting labels (e.g. year/subject) under More settings.
  7. Happy with it? Click Save.

Create a page

Under Pages in your portfolio you can create attractive (web) pages about a topic.

Under Pages in your portfolio you can create attractive (web) pages about a topic.

For example about:

  • who you are (example);
  • a project;
  • a page to prepare for a coaching conversation;
  • your internship/job application.

Now let's create a first page:

Get started

  1. Go to My portfolio and click Pages.
  2. Add a + New page.
  3. Add some elements such as Profile and Text blocks (with something about your hobbies, sports or your motivation for your studies). You can also add a file with a photo.
  4. Give the page a Title. At the top, under Choose a featured image, you can create your own look and feel by choosing a nice image from Unsplash.
  5. At the bottom, under Privacy, choose who you want to share this page with. You can also set this page as your Start page. It then becomes the "front cover" of your portfolio.
  6. Happy with it? Click Save.

Want to change something? You can still edit this item. Click the arrow and then Edit.

Submit assignments and reflect

Teachers can give you assignments in Simulise.
⌄

Teachers can give you assignments in Simulise.

These assignments are meant to:

  • Help you add material to your portfolio and get feedback on it.
  • Show (reflect on) how you used your skills.
  • Collect evidence of competencies.

On Start you see the assignments with an upcoming deadline. If you click Assignments, you see all assignments that are open for you, that you are working on and that you have already submitted.

There is also a tab with all your Lesson plans. A lesson plan is a set of assignments about a certain topic.

Get started

  1. Go to Assignments and see which assignments you have received. Do you also have Lesson plans? If so, click the title of the plan to see which assignments belong to it.
  2. Watch the video to see how to submit and reflect.

Tip 1:

If work in your portfolio has the privacy setting "Only me", you cannot submit it. Change the setting to "My teachers".

Tip 2:

Make sure you complete all steps. Sometimes you need to submit a portfolio item and reflect on a skill. Only when you have done everything is the assignment submitted and sent to your teacher.
